The Crescent River Port Pilots know what it’s like to work together to overcome hardship. From navigating the Mississippi River or through distant seas, their lives are quite literally in each other’s hands. This is the guiding philosophy of the Crescent River Port Pilots Foundation: “We must help each other, reach out to our neighbors and build up our communities, if we are going to navigate our ship safely home.” It is without a doubt that the Crescent River Port Pilots Foundation prioritize the well-being of their neighbors and the community that they serve.
In January, the Foundation empowered Hope House with a $10,000 donation to help fund their Play It Safe! initiative. Play It Safe! is an evidence-informed child abuse prevention program that’s age-appropriate and grade-level specific for Pre-K through 6th grade and topic specific for secondary schools. With the help of the Crescent River Port Pilots, Hope House has since been able to bring this invaluable program to over 770 children within St. Tammany and Washington parishes in 2019.
In June of 2019, the Foundation once again empowered Hope House with a $5,000 grant to help provide a Clinical Internship Stipend – and provide much needed counseling support to their already team of two clinicians, allowing Hope House to maximize the total number of children served through their counseling program. In 2019, Hope House will have more therapeutic capacity than ever before, since it’s inception in 1994.
In 2019, Hope House is projected to surpass all past records of children served within St. Tammany and Washington parish by breaking the threshold of 400 forensic interviews. In 2018, Hope House served 317 child victims of abuse.
In a compliment to the Crescent River Port Pilots’ generosity, the In Jesus’ Name Foundation provided Hope House with an endowment, which will help sustain the program for a minimum of five years.
